Mandating community service

If your charge is not on this list you will not be eligible to complete your community service at Goodwill.

*Goodwill does not accept individuals with the following charges: theft of any type, suspended license, drug charges, assault charges, and disorderly conduct charges.

Be up front with them and explain why you are calling.

Hands On Greater Portland volunteers must sign a waiver that they've never been convicted of or charged with a violent crime, child abuse or neglect, child pornography, child abduction, kidnapping, rape or any sexual offense, or ordered by a court to receive psychiatric or psychological treatment in connection to that crime.

In some high schools in Washington, for example, students must finish 200 hours of community service to get a diploma.

Goodwill works with individuals on a case by case basis toward the completion of their court mandated community service.

The press release conveniently did not mention Tago was literally by a court to do that community service as part of a plea bargain he accepted to avoid a felony robbery conviction.

Back in 2016, Tago, then 19, was arrested and charged with second degree felony robbery and fourth degree assault after he punched a man in the head and stole a six pack of beer from him.
